About New Zealand Forest ManagersWe are recruiting for our client New Zealand Forest Managers (NZFM).
For 36 years NZFM has offered forest management services.
Today, these services are primarily to commercial forest owners and cover every stage including forest development, protection, harvesting and marketing of the logs once harvested.
NZFM manages over 70,000ha of forests, largely around the Taupo District but with smaller forests dotted around the rest of the North Island too.NZFM isn't the forest owner, or the sawmill / customer.
They are the manager, which means maintaining strong relationships with both forest owners, and the customers they sell logs to.You'll notice as soon as you walk in the door of the Turangi office, that the team are genuinely down-to-earth people who are passionate about doing good work and enjoying it.
There's no pretence, no egos, just good people who care about what they do and the value they create.
About the roleThis role leads Health & Safety as a function for the business.
As far as policy, management, record keeping and leadership, this role is sole charge and doesn't have any direct reports.
You will, however, work closely with a team of operational managers across the business who are each responsible for ensuring their area follows agreed process and that everyone is safe.Health & Safety cannot just be a set of rules or policies somewhere at the office.
In a business like NZFM, it's essential that every employee & contractor fully understands what is expected of them.
Your role will be, alongside the rest of leadership, to ensure that Health & Safety is a living part of how the business operates.The core responsibilities for the role though are : The Right Processes : You will ensure that all of the policy and processes to support good outcomes are in place and kept current at all times across the business.
You will ensure incident reporting is working and investigations (when required) are thorough and the root cause is identified.The Right Practices : You won't just be 'ticking boxes' in the office all day.
You will regularly spend time on sites to ensure you understand the environment people are working in.
You will work with operational managers to ensure that what is agreed on paper, is what is practiced on the ground.The Right Culture : NZFM's team, including its General Manager, John, are passionate about people being safe across the entire business.
You will ensure that there is continual growth in a culture of 'the best way, is the safe way'.
You will help communicate, and continually remind the team of the why behind following agreed processes.The Right Information : You will provide excellent, fit for purpose reporting to the General Manager, board and other stakeholders such as forest owners.

You MUST however have significant experience in Health & Safety, ideally at a management level.Eligibility : To be considered for this role, you must have the current legal right to work in New Zealand at the time of application.
This means you are either : A New Zealand citizen or permanent resident, orThe holder of a current visa that entitles you to work in New Zealand for the duration of the role (full time / permanent).
