Southern Lakes Sanctuary is a landscape scale conservation organisation, formed as a consortium of six large conservation groups. Our vision is for flourishing te taiao through action, leadership and collaboration.
We have an exciting opportunity for a full-time permanent role in our team, an opportunity to make a significant impact for conservation in the region.
The Biodiversity Impact Manager will design our monitoring programmes, oversee and support Coordinators, provide advice and reports to the CEO, and work to ensure effective, safe, and efficient delivery of conservation operations.
Responsibilities
- Lead, support, and manage the performance of Hub Coordinators and their field crews.
- Ensure health and safety systems are embedded and consistently applied across all operations.
- Design and implement monitoring programmes to assess biodiversity threats and outcomes.
- Provide technical expertise and advice on monitoring and reporting, guided by scientific best practice.
- Commission and manage applied research to address key knowledge gaps relevant to SLS objectives.
- Oversee delivery of operations plans and ensure timely, accurate reporting to the CEO.
- Support professional development by identifying staff training opportunities.
- Collaborate with contractors, scientists, and conservation partners to maximise SLS effectiveness.
Qualifications and Experience
Personal Attributes :Motivated, energetic, and adaptable, with strong levels of initiative.Collaborative team player who also performs effectively independently.Open to new ideas and committed to professional development.Passion for conservation and respect for SLS’s values and culture.A higher degree in ecology, conservation biology, or a related discipline, ideally with peer-reviewed publications.Proven ability in data management and analysis, with proficiency in R, Excel, Word, GIS and TrapNZ.Scientific understanding of both native species and introduced mammalian species, particularly in relation to predator suppression and eradication strategies.Experience (ideally 5+ years) in :Formal monitoring across multiple taxa.Managing teams in both office and field environments.Collaboration with diverse stakeholders, including government agencies, NGOs, and community groups.How to apply
