This role will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef / Kaitunu matua to create extraordinary culinary delights for our manuhiri (visitors), so if you have a love of kai (food) and baking then this might be the opportunity for you!
Our world-class Astronomy Centre on Takapo lakefront brings to life the science of stars and Tatai aroraki (Maori astronomy) through an immersive and engaging international experience.

As hosts, we care for our customers and our team as our own whanau.ResponsibilitiesAssist the Head Chef / Kaitunu matua to create extraordinary culinary delights for visitors in the Dark Sky Diner.Apply skills across baking and kitchen operations, and manage time effectively.Maintain quality and consistency in food preparation and presentation.Support the kitchen team in a fast-paced environment, staying cool under pressure.Work shifts on weekdays, weekends and public holidays.QualificationsMinimum of three years' experience in a professional kitchen as a Sous Chef and / or NZ Diploma in Cookery (Level 5) or equivalent.Has a range of skills in the kitchen from baking through to time management.Eager to learn and correctly pronounce reo Maori names and terms.Strong communication and teamwork skills.Additional informationYou must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand to apply for this role.Interested in joining us?
