- The System Leadership Team at Crown Law are looking for an experienced government lawyer to join us, working as Crown Counsel until June
- .The System Leadership Team is based in the Attorney-General Group and assists the Solicitor-General fulfil her system leadership role for the Government Legal Network.
We leverage the collective strength of the government's 850+ lawyers and support those lawyers to do their jobs in agencies.This role will work with the Government Legal Network to support the provision of high quality legal services to government through :
Producing legal advice and guides for government lawyers and decision-makers on both foundational and emerging legal topics;Identifying trends and risks across government, and assisting with legal risk management;Considering how legal developments impact the Crown across the board and how the Crown's legal position might be shaped; andKeeping government lawyers up to date on key legal developmentsFor more information on the role, please refer to the attached position description.Location : Te Whanganui-a-Tara | WellingtonThis role is Wellington based and located next to Wellington bus and train station.Crown Law's purpose is to serve New Zealand by supporting the Government to operate lawfully.Crown Law's functions are :Supporting the Law Officers of the CrownLeading the government legal professionOverseeing public prosecutionsProviding legal services to GovernmentCrown Law provides legal advice and representation services to the Government in matters affecting the executive government.The services Crown Law provides include matters covering judicial review of government actions, constitutional questions including Te Tiriti o Waitangi / Treaty of Waitangi issues, the enforcement of criminal law, and the protection of revenue.
Crown Law also administers the prosecution process in the criminal justice system, in particular, Crown prosecutions.We strive to incorporate and reflect te reo Maori and tikanga in the workplace.
