Literacy Facilitator / Support Worker, Intensive Support Service

Permanent, Full-time (40 hours per week)

Service operates, Monday – Friday 8 : 00am to 4 : 00pm

Position is based

from either our Otahuhu or New Lynn service, with the work happening across both sites

Pay Equity : $25.00ph - $31.50ph

(depending on qualification held and its equivalence to the Certificate in Health and Wellbeing L4)

The Service | Ko Te Whare O ISS

ISS provides tailored, person-centred support for whaiora with high and complex needs, particularly those with intellectual disabilities and forensic mental health backgrounds.

ISS focuses on enhancing clients' quality of life through structured day programmes that develop life skills, foster community participation, and promote independence.

Support Workers collaborate with clients to set and achieve personal goals, employing behavioural interventions and strength-based approaches to facilitate reintegration into the community.

We work in partnership with residential services to provide an all-encompassing array of supportive services to facilitate the client on their pathway to rehabilitation.

Role | Nga mahi

As a Literacy Facilitator / Support Worker, you will primarily be responsible for developing content, activities, and resources that are tailored to the individual needs of clients, as well as facilitating programmes that support and empower whaiora to build skills in a wide range of literacies—including reading and writing, numerical literacy, and financial literacy.

You will on occasion also support with delivering programs that build general life skills and day services, combining client-centred goals with behavioural interventions to provide clients with a sense of identity and self-confidence, and the practical skills needed to lead successful lives within the community of their choice.

Responsibilities include :

Facilitating the development of a range of skills that promote community participation and successful entry to the mainstream labour market

Identifying needs, setting goals, providing support, role-modelling, and coaching, with a focus in particular on assessing needs, setting goals, and facilitating the growth of literacy and numeracy skills

Facilitating the design, delivery, and evaluation of literacy programmes, including building content, activities, and resources that meet whaiora's needs

Providing or coordinating one-on-one and / or group support and training that assists an individual with high and complex needs to develop interpersonal and pre-vocational skills that improves their quality of life and enables them to live within their community of choice

Being comfortable with work activities that are of a physical nature and may involve active participation in sports and restraints of clients

You will | Nga Pukenga

Have or be working towards a New Zealand Certificate in Health and Wellbeing Level 4 or equivalent

Have a New Zealand Certificate in Adult Literacy and Numeracy, or a similar relevant qualification, or experience in a related relevant field

Hold a Full NZ Drivers Licence

Have a valid / current work visa, residency, or citizenship

Have experience working with intellectual disability and complex behaviours

Have exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to relate, adapt to and engage a wide spectrum of people with diverse backgrounds, ages, intellectual abilities, and cultures

Have a passion for walking alongside those in need, supporting ongoing goals on the pathway to recovery
