About The Role

New Zealand's Government Houses are national taonga - historic residences that support the Governor-General in their constitutional, ceremonial, and community leadership roles.

The Government House team provides support to the Governor-General, while ensuring the Houses and their grounds are maintained to the highest standards.

As the Procurement and Contract Specialist, you will lead and manage end-to-end procurement and contract management for both Government Houses.

You'll oversee a wide range of projects, from maintenance and conservation to capital works, ensuring value for money, compliance with procurement frameworks, and the continued protection of these nationally significant assets.

This is a hands-on role that combines technical procurement knowledge with strong relationship and project management skills.

You will work closely with suppliers, contractors, and internal teams to deliver results in a unique and high-profile heritage environment.

In this role, you will

Lead and manage procurement and contracting processes, from tender through to contract administration and performance monitoring.

Draft, review, and negotiate contracts that meet legislative, policy, and organisational standards.

Oversee a pipeline of maintenance and construction projects, ensuring alignment with the Governor-General's schedule and operational priorities.

Build procurement capability and consistency across Government House teams.

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with suppliers, contractors, and internal stakeholders.

Contribute to the effective stewardship of heritage assets and ensure best practice in procurement and project delivery.

Support events, functions, and official engagements as part of the wider Government House team.

Some travel to Government House Auckland and flexibility to support events outside standard hours will be required.

About You – Mou Ano

Tertiary qualification and / or equivalent experience in procurement, contract management, facilities, or a related field.

Proven experience managing contracts and supplier performance from initiation to completion.

Strong understanding of procurement frameworks, risk management, and project delivery in an operational or facilities context.

Excellent planning, time management, and negotiation skills.

Strong interpersonal and relationship-building capability, with the confidence to engage across a diverse range of stakeholders.

Practical, solutions-focused approach with high levels of initiative, professionalism, and judgement.
