About the role
You will be focused on the biodiversity mahi of the district, leading projects and ensuring the work is done to a high standard.
You will be working closely with the rest of the Mahaanui team, Iwi and local body Councils as well as other organisations, agencies and the community on Banks Peninsula.
Your days will be varied with a mix of field and office-based work depending on our programmes of work.
The position will be focused on :
trapping, fencing, weed control and working on restoration projects
working with species (including threatened plants) and providing wildlife callers with advice
contract management and helping co-ordinate contractors and staff to deliver on timebound work programs
collating data, data analysis and reporting
collaborating with colleagues, community, iwi and local partners to establish relationships and to share information and knowledge
providing support to wider regional operations team as required
assisting with Marine Reserve monitoring patrols

Skills and experience
If you have some of following, we are keen to hear from you :
A genuine interest and enthusiasm for conservation, experience working with iwi and community organisations
A relevant degree or qualification in biology, conservation or ecology; or relevant practical experience in conservation work and species management
Have a practical background with the ability and physical fitness to be able to carry out a variety of conservation tasks, including weed control, predator control and biodiversity monitoring
Knowledge of plants, birds and animals and methods to protect, as well as practical skills (e.g. trapping and fencing)
The ability to plan, prioritise and carry out your own work
Leadership skills with the ability to lead a team and projects
Proven organisational skills
Be able to communicate effectively to a diverse audience
A full driver's licence
Desirable :
A Growsafe, 4×4 and LUV qualifications
First aid certificate
Confident in the use of VHF radio systems
Firearms licence
Skippers licence or boat experience

The salary range for this position is $65,070 to $75,981 with the starting salary of the successful applicant being based on their relevant skills and experience.
