Porirua East School is seeking an experienced and dedicated ORS specialist teacher to support our community of learners with diverse needs. This fixed-term role also includes beginning teacher release as part of the allocated hours.
We are looking for a passionate teacher who understands inclusive education and is committed to ensuring every learner experiences success.
Key responsibilities :
- Collaborate closely with the SENCO , classroom teachers, and learning assistants to provide high-quality support for ORS students.
- Build positive, trusting relationships with students and whānau to understand individual strengths, challenges, and aspirations.
- Provide targeted teaching—both in-class and in small groups—to meet the specific learning, behavioural, and social needs of students.
- Assess, plan, and implement effective interventions and monitor student progress over time.
- Support teachers to adapt programmes and classroom environments to ensure accessibility and inclusion.
- Work with external specialists and agencies to coordinate support and share best practices.
- Contribute to the development and review of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) .
- Provide Beginning Teacher Release within the allocated hours, supporting classroom consistency and staff wellbeing.
