We're looking for a highly capable Enterprise & Operational Risk Manager to lead the development and embedding of best-practice enterprise risk frameworks and deliver independent, influential risk insights to our executive and board committees.
Reporting to the Head of Enterprise & Operational Risk, this role offers a unique chance to be part of something new, helping establish the foundation of a function that will play a critical role in our long-term success.
To succeed in this role, you'll bring a sharp eye for detail and a talent for translating complex risk matters into clear, concise, and actionable reporting.
Ideally, you've developed these skills in financial services or consulting, where high standards of governance, regulatory scrutiny, and client expectations are the norm.
You'll be confident drafting sophisticated board papers and regulatory reports that not only meet compliance obligations but also influence decision-making at the highest levels.

This is one of two new senior hires helping to shape a modern, fit-for-purpose risk function from the ground up, alongside a third role focused on supporting delivery and analysis, building the team from the ground up, bringing fresh energy, bold ideas, and a shared commitment to excellence in everything we do.

What you'll be doing :
Develop and maintain the Risk Appetite Statement (RAS) consistent with NZ regulatory prudential requirements and internal risk appetite.
Own and continuously enhance the Enterprise Risk Management Framework (ERMF) aligned to NZ legislation such as the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Act and Reserve Bank prudential standards.
Develop and embed Operational Risk policies, standards, and methodologies across business units to meet regulatory and industry expectations.
Embed Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) and RAS metrics to provide independent assurance on risk exposures.
Provide independent risk reporting to the Executive Risk Committee and Board Audit, Risk and Compliance Committee in line with NZ governance expectations.
Oversee data governance, risk analytics, and reporting frameworks to support robust risk-based decision-making.
Lead executive-level risk discussions, delivering expert insights and independent challenge.
Partner with the Head of Enterprise & Operational Risk to upskill team capabilities, strengthen internal collaboration.
Work collaboratively with the risk team on monitoring, oversight, and assurance activities.
What you'll bring with you :
7-10 years' experience in enterprise and operational risk management within New Zealand's financial services or insurance sector.
Relevant NZ-recognised qualifications in risk management, governance, law, or finance (e.g., GRC, postgraduate risk qualifications).
Deep knowledge of NZ regulatory requirements including the Insurance (Prudential Supervision) Act, Reserve Bank prudential standards, and Financial Markets Authority (FMA) conduct expectations.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with previous experience writing board level papers for senior leadership.
Exhibits self-leadership, upholds company values, and applies adaptive leadership to drive results in a dynamic insurance environment
Proven ability to design and implement risk appetite frameworks and operational risk policies compliant with NZ law.
Strong analytical skills, including experience with KRI development and reporting to NZ governance bodies.
Excellent stakeholder engagement skills with senior management and board-level reporting experience.
Self-motivated, detail-oriented with a proactive approach to risk identification and escalation.
