  • Mo te tunga | About the role
  • Working as a customer focused administrator as part of our applications / claims team, within Veterans' Affairs New Zealand, you will learn all aspects of processing claims for our veterans and their whanau, while also looking for ways to improve the application processes.A typical day could include :
  • Contacting veterans and medical professionals to obtain missing information and ensuring applications are complete.
  • Requesting medical information and providing it to the decision making team.
  • Setting up payments and finalising correspondence about claim outcomes.
  • Contributing to projects and improvement initiatives.

  • You will have strong customer service experience, with the ability to understand and explain processes clearly to a wide audience.

Using patience and understanding, you will have a focus on assisting veterans and their whanau to gain access to the support they need.

You will also have :

  • A collaborative and positive approach to working in a team environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to relate and engage with a variety of people.
  • Accuracy and strong attention to detail, along with confidence using IT and client information management systems.
  • Proven communication skills, both written and verbal including the ability to produce professional and accurate business documents.
  • Self-motivation and initiative to manage your time effectively.
  • An understanding of medical terminology would be an advantage.Please note : This is a fixed term opportunity ending 30 June 2026, based in the Reserve Bank Building, Wellington CBD.
  • Once you have undergone training and are up to speed, there is the option of working from home 2 days a week.It is advised to apply early to avoid disappointment, as this role may close ahead of time due to a high volume of applicants.

  • You must be a New Zealand citizen or you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa.
  • At minimum, you must hold New Zealand Permanent Residence or have a current New Zealand Residency Class Visa, and you must be a citizen of and have lived in Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, United States of America or New Zealand continuously for the last five (5) years.
  • You must have a five (5) year background history that can be verified and assessed appropriately by the NZ Security Intelligence Service (NZSIS) to determine if you are suitable for a security clearance at this level.If you do not meet the minimum criteria, unfortunately, your application will not be accepted.
