Prison based roleFull time 40 hours per week Monday – FridayTe whiwhinga mahi – The opportunityWe are looking for a Peer Support Worker to join our services based in the Te Aka Tika programme at Christchurch Men's prison.
Some work may also be required at Rolleston Prison.As a Peer Support worker, you will join a team of clinical staff, providing a multi-disciplinary approach to working with our client group.
Your lived experience with alcohol / drug concerns and treatment will bring a peer perspective both to the staff team and the clients.Nga kawenga matua o te mahi – Key responsibilities of the roleDelivering education and therapeutic groups within the prisonFacilitating aftercare conversations and groups both inside and outside the wire.Supporting a multi-disciplinary team of clinical staffNga pumanawatanga ou – What you will bringHave a journey of lived experience of recovery from Addiction and have been in recovery for a minimum of 2 years.Knowledge and experience of the Peer support model of practice is essentialDemonstrated knowledge and application of Te Ao Maori including, models of Hauora, Uara, Tikanga and Te Reo is essentialHold a Level 4 Health and Wellbeing Certificate, working towards it or willing to engage in studyHave good organisational skillsBe a team playerYou will be part of a small and dedicated team working across prison sites, and a valued member of the wider Purapura Whetu and Odyssey Whanau.
