We're proud to be Aotearoa's UNESCO City of Design, blending rich heritage with modern innovation.About the roleWe're looking for a talented and motivated leader to join our Visitor Experiences Group as Manager - Venues and Events.Based across the War Memorial Centre, Royal Whanganui Opera House, and Cooks Gardens Events Centre, you'll lead a team of venue and technical professionals delivering everything from major concerts and festivals to community celebrations.
This is a pivotal role - balancing strategic growth with hands-on operational delivery.
You'll have the chance to shape unforgettable event experiences while growing Whanganui's reputation as a destination.You'll report to the Manager Visitor Experiences and be a key part of the wider Customer Experiences Group.What you\'ll bringProven experience managing venue or event operations at a senior levelStrong leadership and people management skills in a fast-paced environmentExcellent organisational, financial, and logistical management abilityStakeholder relationship management skills across diverse and complex networksStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence and present with impactA relevant tertiary qualification (e.g. Diploma of Management or similar) or equivalent experienceDesirable : Event Management or related qualificationExperience in the events, arts, hospitality, or entertainment industryLocal government or public sector experienceKnowledge of Te Ao Maori and tikangaAsset and facilities management experienceWhat we offerA full-time leadership role with variety, creativity, and real impactThe chance to help shape Whanganui's venues as true community and visitor hubsA supportive, passionate team and the rewards of life in one of New Zealand's most distinctive districtsHow to applyInterested?
