About the Role
MBIE's Collaborative Procurement team, a function within New Zealand Government Procurement, is looking for a Senior Commercial Specialist to lead All-of-Government procurement strategies and supplier relationships to deliver value for government and New Zealanders.
This is a hands-on role where you'll lead a category(s) of goods or services in sectors such as professional services, finance, travel, develop market strategies, and work closely with agencies and suppliers to optimise outcomes.
In this role, you will :
Lead procurement approaches to market and strategic category reviews.
Provide expert advice and support on commercial strategies and supplier management.
Drive innovation and benefit realisation through well-managed contracts and relationships.
Mentor Commercial Specialists and contribute to capability uplift across government.
Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver solutions that meet agency needs and government priorities.
Skills and Experience Required
Strong commercial experience in government, regulatory, or private sector environments.
Demonstrated ability to analyse complex procurement situations and design robust strategies.
Excellent interpersonal and influencing skills.
Experienced in managing contractual processes - evidenced by robust contract documentation and sound understanding of contract law.
Significant experience in influencing and negotiating with stakeholders, suppliers, and senior managers.
Excellent interpersonal skills; demonstrated by credibility, personal or collaborative influence, managing expectations and targeted persuasion.
Experience in contract management and category strategy development.
High degree of political nous and a working knowledge of the machinery of government.
Must have the legal right to live and work in New Zealand.
