About the role
We have an exciting opportunity at our SPCA Mangere Centre for a :
- Community Support Officer
- Permanent – Full-Time
- 40 hours per week, Monday to Sunday as rostered.
As a Community Support Officer, you’ll be a visible and active representative of SPCA in your local community. This role is varied and hands-on, you’ll spend time in the field supporting both people and animals, while ensuring all work aligns with SPCA’s policies, procedures, and the Animal Welfare Act 1999.
Key responsibilities
Respond to animal-related enquiries and assist the public in a professional and empathetic mannerTriage, coordinate, and attend non-inspectorate animal emergenciesProvide animal transport, including ambulance collection, transfers, trapping, and community desexing supportPerform daily animal care, handling, and hygiene duties when requiredSupport foster networks and build strong community relationshipsAssist with administration, data entry, and use of SPCA’s animal management systemsCoordinate and collect donations, manage vehicle and equipment upkeepRepresent SPCA at community events and educational activitiesPromote responsible pet ownership and raise awareness of animal welfare issuesSupport volunteers and ensure their safety and wellbeing while working alongside themComply with all health, safety, and wellbeing standardsAbout you
You’ll be community-minded, confident engaging with people from all walks of life, and comfortable handling animals in a variety of situations. You’ll have excellent communication skills, good judgement, and the ability to stay calm under pressure.
You will have :
A current Auxiliary Officer Licence under Section 125(1) of the Animal Welfare Act 1999, or willingness and ability to obtain one (essential)Experience in animal welfare or extensive animal handling (essential)Full, clean driver’s licence with ability to drive a manual vehicle (essential)Experience driving larger vehicles such as vans or utes, and towing trailers (desirable)Computer literacy and confidence learning new systems and technologyPhysical fitness and resilience to work in a demanding, hands-on environmentHigh professional standards, attention to detail, and integrityWork with a passionate, supportive, and mission-driven teamMake a meaningful difference for animals and your community every dayDevelop your skills through training and ongoing professional growthEmployee wellbeing initiatives and EAP supportEnjoy a paid day off for your birthdayExclusive discounts and benefits, including pet insurance and retail offers.How to apply
