Kaiarahi Family Court Navigator – Manukau District Court – Full Time, Permanent Position

The role is a visible community position that engages and collaborates with local iwi, service providers, community groups, and agencies to ensure accurate information is communicated to families and the court. The navigator builds relationships between communities and the justice system, leveraging knowledge of Family Court and Judicial Services processes to facilitate access to justice.

This role requires frequent community outreach, including weekends and outside normal hours, and travel across the region to support communities throughout Aotearoa.

Responsibilities

  • Actively engage and collaborate with local iwi, service providers, community groups, and agencies.
  • Communicate accurate information to families and the court where applicable.
  • Understand availability and suitability of community services and resources.
  • Build and maintain relationships between communities and the justice system.
  • Advise families and court participants to facilitate access to justice.
  • Work independently and as part of a regional team, adapting to evolving community needs.
  • Travel across your region to deliver consistent, quality support.

Qualifications & Experience

The role is designed for candidates who reflect the community we serve and can assist Te Tāhū o te Ture in honouring our commitment to the people of Aotearoa. A full driver’s licence is required.

  • No candidate must meet every single qualification; we value diverse experience.
  • Experience working with community groups and varied socio‑economic family situations.
  • Knowledge of Family and District Courts is highly advantageous.
  • Strong relational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex documents, including legislation and financial information.
  • Creativity, innovation, and ability to self‑manage while contributing to a team.
  • Key Skills and Experience Include

  • Excellent relationship management skills.
  • High level of comfort working with Whānau, Hapu, and Iwi.
  • Understanding and appreciation of cultural issues, particularly Māori tikanga.
  • Technical knowledge and experience in Family and District Courts (advantageous).
  • Ability to understand and communicate complex documents (legislation, financial, numerical, business).

    The appointing salary for this role is between $83,562 and $116,273, based on skills and experience.
