Job Description
Mo tenei turanga mahi (About the position)
Firstgas owns and operates New Zealand's network of high-pressure gas transmission pipelines stretching more than 2,500km.
These pipelines transport large volumes of gas to gas-fired power stations, other energy retailers' distribution networks, petrochemical plants, hospitals, steel makers and other major industry.
We're looking for a Mechanical Pipeline Technician - Hot Tap to bring some good energy to our Specialist Trades team.
In this fantastic role you'll provide specialist hot tap, isolation, pipeline repairs and welding supervision services for the gas transmission system and 3rd party pipeline owners.
You can expect to :
Lead and apply best practice pipeline intervention and repair techniques to operational activities, including but not limited, in-service line tapping (hot tapping), line plugging / isolations, by-pass operations and composite repairs.
Provide support and supervision for pipeline welding, welding of hot tap fittings and other connections to in-service pipelines.
Complete, issue and / or receive detailed permits (PTW), including but not limited to, job hazard assessments (JHA), job specific check sheets, lifting plans, excavation plans and rescue plans.
Provide excavation standover, permitting and supervision to facilitate defect assessment and potential repair activities.
Provide technical support to operations teams to ensure optimal equipment performance.
Participate in the 24 / 7 On-Call roster and emergency response.
This role is based out of our Bell Block (Taranaki) office, with regular travel required around the country as we respond to both planned and reactive maintenance efforts.
While the majority of our travel is planned, there may be instances where we need to travel at short notice in the event of significant reactive maintenance requirements.
Qualifications

As well as being an awesome team member who brings a 'can do' attitude and good energy to everything you do, you'll also leverage your relationship management skills to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
Along with your relevant trade qualification, you'll have 7+ years mechanical experience.
Ideally, you'll also have 2+ years Hot Tap and Intervention experience, and familiarity with pipeline defect assessment, non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques, welding practices, procedural requirements and pipeline repair techniques.
An ability to work independently, self-manage, prioritise and proactively communicate is important, along with a full, clean driver's licence.
You strive for continuous improvement, developing yourself and others as you share your experiences, particularly with apprentices and your hoamahi.
