About the Role
This is a permanent full-time position based at the Kapuni Water Treatment Plant and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of 10 water supplies across the district.
The purpose of this role is to ensure the reliable supply of potable water in sufficient quantity and optimal quality to the communities of the South Taranaki district.
Water is a vital resource — essential to our environment, our health, and our daily lives.
As part of the operations team, the role involves the operation and maintenance of raw water sources, treatment facilities, and reservoirs, ensuring they perform at their best.
This includes work such as :
Monitoring and calibrating sensors and using control systems
Ensuring the functionality of pumps, motors, and automated valves
Supporting fault diagnosis and repair of electrical components
The position also plays a key role in compliance monitoring and reporting, ensuring all activities meet the requirements of the Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules and relevant Resource Consents.
About You
You will be adaptable with a 'can-do' attitude, have a good grasp of modern technology such as computers and instrumentation and is capable of dealing with a wide variety of operating or process systems.
Together with your National Certificate in Water Treatment - Site Operator and / or National Diploma in Water Treatment - Site Technician, your technical skills, knowledge and experience relating to the maintenance and operation of treatment facilities will be of value.
Your ability to maintain a high working knowledge and understanding of Drinking Water Standards, health and safety legislation and practices, hydraulic, mechanical, instrumentation and electrical workings and other relevant information will ensure best practice is followed and the safety of others is maintained.

A full or restricted clean valid driver's license is essential as you are required to participate in a duty roster system and attend after-hours call outs when required.
South Taranaki District Council is an Accredited Employer so if you're moving to the region, we can offer practical support and some financial assistance.

The salary range for this position is between $62,910pa and $80,100pa and the appointed starting level will be dependent on skills and experience and will be discussed during interviews with shortlisted candidates.
Additional payments, in the order of $10,000 to $12,000, are made for rostered work which is dependent on the roster cycles done.
