Job description

Associate Clinical Nurse Manager (ACNM) - Emergency Department

We are only accepting applications from current Health New Zealand employees only

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is dedicated to serving all New Zealanders. Through integration and collaboration, we're building a health system underpinned by partnership, equity, sustainability, whānau-centred care, and excellence.

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Senior Registered Nurse to join our Emergency Department (ED) team at Hutt Hospital as part of the Associate Clinical Nurse Manager (ACNM) group.

This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse with strong leadership skills and a passion for emergency care to take the next step in their career. As a key member of our senior nursing team, you'll support the coordination of care in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment while working closely with a dedicated and skilled multidisciplinary team.

You’ll be exposed to a diverse range of clinical presentations, making this role ideal for someone looking to further develop their advanced assessment, critical thinking, and leadership skills. We foster a culture of teamwork, professional growth, and clinical excellence, with a strong focus on delivering safe, compassionate, and high-quality care to every patient.

About the Team / Service

Hutt Hospital's Emergency Department (ED) is part of the Hospital Operations Group within the Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district. As one of six key operational groups across the district's provider services, it supports care ranging from primary to tertiary level and serves not only the local community but also the wider Central Region. Operating across Wellington Regional, Hutt, and Kenepuru Hospitals, the group delivers responsive and high-quality care to a diverse and often high-acuity patient population.

Hutt ED is a dynamic and fast-paced environment where no two days are the same. The team is highly adaptable, responding to a wide range of presentations, including a significant number of Māori, Pasifika, and elderly patients with complex health and social needs. As such, our care is grounded in cultural safety, clinical excellence, and a strong sense of equity and inclusion.

We are a vibrant, professional, and caring team who role model what it means to work as a whānau. We support each other through the challenges and celebrate our collective achievements. With a strong commitment to staff development, Hutt ED offers structured opportunities to grow clinical knowledge, critical thinking, and leadership capability. We take pride in fostering advanced nursing roles and offer well-established education pathways that encourage nurses to progress and thrive in emergency care.

If you are a compassionate and motivated Registered Nurse, whether bringing prior ED experience or eager to develop in this specialty, we welcome you to join a team that values learning, support, and making a real difference in the lives of our patients.

About you

You are a compassionate and professional nurse who brings enthusiasm, curiosity, and a commitment to continuous learning. You thrive in a collaborative environment, communicate with respect, and are dedicated to delivering safe, effective, and equitable care to all patients.

Emergency Department experience is essential, along with strong clinical skills and the ability to remain calm and adaptable in a dynamic setting. Just as important is your positive attitude and your interest in stepping into a senior nursing role.

At Hutt ED, we're more than just a team, we're a whānau. We support each other through the busy shifts and challenging days, and we celebrate our successes together. If you're looking to join a team that values camaraderie, shared learning, and genuine care, we'd love to hear from you.
