The role centres around the Prophet model, with a strong emphasis on Prophet coding and technical delivery, supporting both model enhancements and complex actuarial projects.
You'll work closely with internal stakeholders to define requirements, develop implementation plans, and influence delivery outcomes.The team operates in a dynamic environment, managing a wide range of change requests and competing priorities, which requires adaptability, strong problem-solving skills, and strategic prioritisation.
Team members rotate across projects and remain closely connected, offering exposure to diverse workstreams and fostering a collaborative culture.
In addition to Prophet, you'll gain hands-on experience with Python and SQL coding, advanced Excel tools, and contribute to building innovative solutions within the VBI framework.
Your technical expertise and insights will directly shape business outcomes and support strategic decision-making, making this a highly rewarding role for someone seeking both challenge and influence.Key responsibilitiesLead and provide support to projects (including management of scope, timelines, deliverables, project team and stakeholders) and to business-as-usual tasks across all aspects of actuarial work including : experience investigationsvaluationsfinancial and regulatory reportinginvestmentsreinsurancefinancesolvency and capital managementrisk managementsystem changes and conversionsother broad business initiatives (as required)Mentor actuarial analystsExtract, reconcile, manipulate and analyse data and develop insights and results for actuaries, other finance colleagues, and external reinsurance partnersReview work completed by actuarial analystsProduce, document and present value-add insights and results to internal and external stakeholdersCommunicate and present technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiencesAssist in preparation of actuarial reportsEngage with teams across AIA and contribute to the broader businessBuild and maintain effective relationships across Financial and Actuarial, Product, Customer and Risk, as well as with external reinsurance partnersProactively take ownership of emerging issues and challengesApply software skills including AIA systems, SQL, MS Office package, Prophet Suite, SAS, Python and RMaintain existing tools, models, systems, processes, methodologies and documentation and proactively contribute to their improvement and developmentUnderstand and adhere to AIA's risk management framework and the relevant policiesIdeally, you'll bringStrong leadership skills and proven ability to engage and influence non-actuarial stakeholders and business partnersDetailed knowledge and understanding of theory and practice across at least one aspect of actuarial workProven strong technical skills including software skills (including AIA systems, SQL, MS Office package, Prophet Suite, SAS, Python and R) and analytical skillsStrong financial services industry experience (ideally life or health insurance)Strong understanding of NZ life insurance legislative and statutory requirementsStrong understanding of AIA's commercial environment (including products, markets and competitors)At least four years experience in actuarial rolesQualificationsTertiary qualification with quantitative background (e.g. mathematics, statistics or engineering)Passed Part 1 and Part 2 actuarial exams, or their equivalentComply with continuing professional development requirements and professional standards of the relevant actuarial bodyWhy choose AIA?
