- Thisis an exciting opportunity to advance your nursing career in a Clinical NurseSpecialist role with the expectation of progressing into a Nurse Practitionerrole in Radiation Oncology within 2 to 4 years of commencing employment.Youwould be employed as a Clinical Nurse Specialist within Radiation Oncologywhilst completing your master's degree.
A confirmed full-time NursePractitioner role is available to progress into at the completion of youracademic study and registration as a Nurse Practitioner with NZ NursingCouncil.Ampleopportunity is provided to gain and expand speciality knowledge and clinicalexperience within the Radiation Oncology arena, working alongside the RadiationOncology clinical teams and participating in the RANZCR Radiation OncologyTraining Program.Thefinal year of your master's degree will involve the completion of the NursePractitioner Training Programme (NPTP) which includes the final academic yearin preparation for Nurse Practitioner registration.
On the completion of thisprogramme, the candidate would be expected to proceed to New Zealand NursingCouncil for panel assessment and Nurse Practitioner registration.
This yearincudes protected clinical and non-clinical time for mentorship andconsolidation of clinical skills, diagnostic reasoning, critical analysis, andclinical prescribing.Keyresponsibilities :
Undertaking First Specialist Appointments under supervision for patients and whanau with a cancer diagnosis within an identified patient groupConducting on treatment review clinics under supervision for patients undergoing radiotherapy, facilitating assessment and management of treatment related side effectsAssessment and management of patient's presenting for radiotherapy acutely unwell from their cancer diagnosis or treatment related toxicities under supervisionAssessment of out-of-town patients who present for radiotherapy with exacerbation of pre-existing medical conditions.Collaboration with Medical Oncology for patients receiving concurrent chemo-radiotherapyFollow-up clinic under supervision for patients post radiotherapy treatment with referral to appropriate services.Supporting radiation oncology multi-disciplinary team including nursing, radiation therapists, radiation oncologists, registrars, and allied health team members.Aboutthe ServiceTheradiation oncology department is part of the Canterbury Regional Cancer andHaematology Service at Christchurch Hospital.AboutyouYoursupport and empathy accompanied with your excellent interpersonal skills andability to build effective relationships with a strong patient focus will seeyou succeed in this exciting opportunity.Itis essential you have / are :A minimum of two years' experience working within radiation or medical oncologyCommenced postgraduate (level 8) educationAre fully committed and motivated to move into the Nurse Practitioner roleExcellent clinical skills, critical thinking, and clinical reasoningRegistered with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC)Itis desirable you are :Motivated, organised, and possess exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to engage a wide range of people.Able to promote nursing research, education, and evidence-based practice.Working at Health New ZealandHealth New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is dedicated to ensuring excellent healthcare for the people of New Zealand.We embrace a workforce that is diverse and inclusive so that we are better positioned to understand and service our community
