Watercare has an exciting opportunity for an experienced Environmental Scientist to join our team.

In This Role You Will

• Oversee the delivery of resource consent compliance and environmental monitoring for Watercare’s northern hub consents (Warkworth, Wellsford, and Snells / Algies) and the Puketutu biosolids facility.
• Lead environmental monitoring and reporting programmes, ensuring data accuracy, regulatory alignment, and effective communication of environmental performance.
• Identify root causes of non-compliances and develop solutions, particularly where adverse environmental effects occur, to mitigate risks and enhance environmental performance.
• Lead responses to environmental incidents and undertake investigations, ensuring effective mitigation, stakeholder communication, and regulatory reporting.
• Strengthen Watercare's scientific capabilities and advance understanding of environmental performance through research, data analysis, and innovation.
• Lead environmental enhancement and improvement projects, supporting sustainability initiatives and operational best practices.
• Enhance community engagement on Watercare's environmental performance, fostering transparency, collaboration, and public trust.
• Provide expert environmental guidance across the business, mentoring team members on compliance and environmental performance matters.

To Be Successful In This Role, You Will Need

A background in water / wastewater quality science and an understanding of environmental regulation and risk management are also advantageous.
