OverviewAuckland Council's Policy department has an opportunity for a Senior Strategist to join the Natural Environment Strategy team.
This is a key role for the Council and will focus on providing high quality strategic advice to internal and external decision-makers across environmental domains.
Use your strategy and policy skills and environmental knowledge across a wide breadth of topics.
You could expect to work on : recommending how we manage our natural environment in an integrated wayforming and communicating policy positions for environmental outcomes across the Council in a way that is easily understood by all stakeholderspromoting resilience and environmental enhancement through recognition of nature-based solutions within the Council's strategy and policy frameworksspatial representation of natural environment issues and nature-based solutions, using geospatial toolsevaluating central and local government legislative and operational proposals against organisational and community expectations for environmental managementResponsibilitiesProvide high quality strategic advice to internal and external decision-makers across environmental domains.Develop and communicate policy positions related to environmental outcomes across the Council.Promote resilience and environmental enhancement through nature-based solutions within strategy and policy frameworks.Utilise geospatial tools for spatial representation of natural environment issues and nature-based solutions.Evaluate legislative and operational proposals against organisational and community expectations for environmental management.Requirements / QualificationsThis role requires experience in natural environment policy and strategy, in large, complex or political organisations, where environmental challenges and integration with other policy drivers make integration a challenge.technical disciplines such as policy development, environmental legislation or spatial planning, including environmental resilience across land, water and coastal domainssound understanding of environmental issues in the Auckland context given other policy drivers (such as productivity and growth, and land use in general)influential approaches for resource management where non-regulatory approaches play a significant roleexcellent interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to produce quality written reports, presentation material and strategic analysisgeospatial experience and a practical understanding and use of geospatial tools (including geospatial or graphics skillsets)We still encourage you to apply if you have some, but not all these requirements.Remuneration and BenefitsAuckland Council is the largest local government council across Oceania, serving over 1.7 million people and contributing towards making Tamaki Makaurau a world-class city.We offer a range of employee benefits and proudly support flexible working options where possible.
The role has a remuneration range of $110,000-$123,000.
