We're looking for an experienced Senior Solicitor to join MBIE's Legal, Ethics & Privacy branch, within Strategy and Assurance.

This is a unique opportunity to work across a wide range of civil and criminal matters that directly impact New Zealand's labour and business markets.

As a Senior Solicitor in our Wellington-based litigation team, you'll appear before Courts, Tribunals, Authorities, and licensing boards, advising on proceedings that span :

Employment standards enforcement in the Employment Court and ERA

Immigration and asylum claims in the Immigration and Protection Tribunal

Criminal prosecutions and civil appeals in the District Court

Tenancy disputes and occupational licensing board hearings

This is a varied and challenging role that offers exposure to high-impact legal work and the chance to contribute to MBIE's mission to Grow New Zealand for All.

A tertiary qualification in law and a current practising certificate

At least 7–8 years' PQE, with litigation experience

Strong technical legal skills and sound judgement

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Proven ability to manage stakeholder relationships

A collaborative, proactive approach and team player mindset

Experience in immigration, criminal, or employment law (preferred but not essential)

Willingness to travel as required

Legal right to live and work in New Zealand
