• Fixed Term or secondmentSalary Range : $107,146 - $143,313### About the roleThe legal team within Te Kawa Mataaho Public Service Commission is a small, high-functioning team providing advice on a wide range of complex and often high-profile issues, including policy and machinery of government issues, employment law, legislative reform, and inquiries.As a Senior Solicitor you will work closely with the rest of the team to provide high-quality, solutions-focused advice to our statutory officers, senior leadership and the rest of our colleagues across the Commission.This position is for a fixed term of 9-12 months to cover a period of parental leave.### About youWe are looking for someone who is :

• Advising on our legislation, including the powers and functions of the Public Service Commissioner
• Providing legal support on integrity and conduct matters, including on reviews and investigations undertaken by the Commissioner
• Contributing to the responsibilities of the team relating to conflicts of interest, privacy and delegations, and legal support for the Commission's corporate processes.To be successful in this role you will have a proven track record of providing accurate advice that successfully influences outcomes. You will build relationships quickly and become a trusted advisor.You will have solid experience practicing law in government, in particular supporting good decision-making. Relevant experience in private practice is also valued. You will have strong technical skills in legal analysis and statutory interpretation, and you will have a well-developed ‘risk-radar'. You will value opportunities to extend yourself and be comfortable applying your technical expertise in new contexts within a supportive and collaborative environment.Even if you don't have experience that covers all aspects of the role, we know the right person can learn these things on the job.This role will give you a unique insight into the role of the Commission and the chance to be at the heart of our public management system. The scope and nature of our work will equip you well for future opportunities in both the public and private sector.To give you a flavour of the role, recent work of our Senior Solicitor has included being the lead legal advisor for the Public Service Amendment Bill, managing the Commission's response to an urgent Waitangi Tribunal inquiry and supporting the Commission's Inquiry into the Protection of Personal Information, among a range of other work.There is no prescribed PQE for the role, however, experience in the range of 6-8 years plus PQE is likely to be required to perform at the level required.The Commission leads the public sector to make a positive difference for New Zealand and New Zealanders.
