Due to flexibility within the team, there is scope for our lawyers to work in relation to different regulatory systems, depending on their experience and interest.
This also means that we are able to offer significant opportunities for developing experience across a broad variety of subject areas and building your career within MBIE.New Zealand's future economy will have a different mix of industries, jobs and skills.

In this role you will have the opportunity to provide legal advice on a broad range of matters including climate change, sustainability and the future of work.
Your clients may be involved in Waitangi Tribunal Inquiries or development of Gene technology or Science reform.
Others may be seeking legal advice on energy and resources and security of supply.
MBIE collaborates with business groups in providing data and technology to enable delivery on the opportunities, challenges and priorities that lie ahead for Aotearoa New Zealand and that is where your experience in the areas of privacy, official information and information sharing is a plus.In this role you will work with other in-house counsel providing high quality and timely advice on a wide range of legal issues.
You will need to be technically proficient, agile, adaptable and a strong communicator.You will work with autonomy in a collaborative and supportive environment.
You will share your knowledge with others to provide advice and support on some of MBIE's most complex and legal matters.Nga pukenga me nga wheako e hiahiatia ana - Skills and Experience RequiredFor this Senior Solicitor role, preference will be given to candidates with between 5-7 years' PQE; and you will also have the following : A tertiary qualification in law and a practising certificateExperience in public law and an understanding of the mechanisms of governmentStrong legal technical skillsWell-developed written and verbal communication abilities, which allow you to convey key ideas and issues in a way that is suitable to the audienceThe ability to deliver successful outcomes in a demanding environmentStrong relationship management skills and an ability to work well with othersEnthusiasm, drive and a proactive natureExperience working in relation to one or more of MBIE's 17 regulatory systemsExperience working on governance, integrity and conduct matters and / or regulatory compliance and enforcementMust have the legal right to live and work in New ZealandWhy work for us?
