Head of Mergers & Acquisitions and Corporate Strategy

Reporting to our CFO and based in Auckland, we are seeking an experienced professional to act as a key partner across our business, responsible for the end-to-end execution of M&A initiatives and strategic planning. This position is vital to our continued growth and market leadership.
What to expect from the role
Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A)
- Maintain a continuous scan of international trends, proactively hunt for potential partners and M&A targets that align with Trade Me’s strategy
- Establish and maintain a strong presence within the Australian and NZ tech start-up scenes and build relationships with investment banks to track innovative businesses and opportunities
- Screen potential targets, conduct accurate valuations using multiple methodologies, and leverage commercial acumen to assess partner strength
- Lead the end-to-end acquisition or divestment process, recommending deal structures, project managing due diligence and negotiating terms in collaboration with Legal, Finance, and external advisors
- Proactively communicate the status and pipeline of potential targets, and write compelling investment cases for the Exec and Board
Post-Deal Management & Capability
Play a key role in post-acquisition integration or separation activities, ensuring the delivery of the original investment thesis and expected returnsSupport business unit teams in managing their M&A pipelines and ensure M&A processes and resources are professionally documented and centralisedCorporate Strategy Development
Collaborate closely with business unit Heads and Commercial Managers to develop, articulate, and refine their annual and multi-year strategic roadmapsOwn the pan-Trade Me strategy process, including structuring and planning, and consolidating individual business unit strategies to achieve Exec and Board alignment and buy-inIdentify, size, and prioritise strategic opportunities, conduct diagnostic reviews, and facilitate executive decision-makingWhat you will bring to the team
We're looking for a seasoned professional who blends deep commercial and financial expertise with strong leadership and communication. You’ll possess strong financial modelling skills, excellent stakeholder management abilities, and a proven track record in complex M&A execution. Some travel is required, primarily within New Zealand and occasionally to Australia.
