Now deep into the largest infrastructure investment programme in its history, Auckland Airport is undertaking over 400,000 sqm of new aeronautical development, including a state-of-the-art Domestic Jet Terminal that will redefine how people move through and experience New Zealand’s most critical transport hub. This is a rare opportunity to take a senior technical leadership role at the heart of this programme.

The Role

Reporting to the Chief Infrastructure Officer, the Head of Engineering will provide strategic leadership and technical assurance across all programmes of work. The role will oversee design quality, system integration, compliance, and technical innovation.

Key Responsibilities :

• Provide technical leadership, assurance, and accountability for the delivery of complex infrastructure works
• Oversee engineering design quality, integration, and compliance across the Auckland Airports infrastructure programme
• Work directly with the CIO and Programme Directors to influence and agree on the design and scope. Support the preparation of the technical aspects of the tender, tender evaluation, contract award and delivery of the programme.
• Lead a team of subject matter experts in engineering, architecture, BIM, GIS, and building services
• Champion innovation, digital engineering, and sustainable design outcomes
• Manage external suppliers / contractors through formal contract management processes
• Manage interfaces with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders to ensure engineering standards are upheld
• Provide robust design governance, peer review, and assurance reporting to the executive and board
• Promote a strong culture of health, safety, and environmental responsibility
• Act as a visible, values-led leader fostering collaboration, wellbeing, and technical excellence
