New Zealand Registered Nurse with a current Annual Practising Certificate without any conditions on scope / practise

Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.

About the Role

We are looking for a skilled and supportive Clinical Coach to join our Workforce Development Team / Education Cluster on the West Coast.

Based in Greymouth, you'll play a pivotal role in coaching and guiding new graduate nurses across a variety of rural clinical settings – helping them transition safely into professional practice.

By providing clinical coaching, mentoring, and role-modelling, you'll enable excellence in rural health outcomes while living out the values and vision of Te Whatu Ora | West Coast.

This role is a Registered Nurse (RN) position, paid on the RN salary scale, and requires you to work within the Nursing Council of New Zealand's scope of practice and competencies.

About the role

Coach and mentor new graduate nurses, supporting them to deliver safe, evidence-based, and culturally appropriate care.

Facilitate smooth transition from study to practice through structured coaching and positive feedback.

Act as a change agent, inspiring and motivating practice improvement across teams.

Support career development opportunities for new graduates and preceptors, including preceptor training, PDRP, postgraduate study, and advanced practice pathways.

Contribute to nurse recruitment and retention across the Coast by fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.

Work collaboratively with Nurse Educators, Clinical Nurse Managers, and the Workforce Development team to deliver coaching plans, facilitate learning opportunities, and evaluate progress.

About You

NZ Registered Nurse with current APC (no conditions preventing full scope of practice).

Minimum 3–5 years' post-registration nursing experience.

Completion of preceptor training and at least 1 year's experience as a preceptor.

Proven ability to work at a proficient level of practice.

Cultural competence (completed or willing to undertake training).

Full, clean NZ driver's licence

Computer literacy and confidence with electronic health records.

Current Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) portfolio.

Experience with adult learning and coaching principles.

CPR Trainer certification.
