About the Role
The Orthopaedic Service has an exciting opportunity for an innovative new Matanga Tapuhi Nurse Practitioner (NP) position or a NP Candidacy to support registration for this area of practice.
This advanced nursing role works independently and collaboratively with the Orthopaedic Service the multidisciplinary team (MDT) in the Te Pae Tiaki | the Emergency Department (ED) at Wellington Regional Hospital (WRH).
Consultation may include other inpatient MDT teams and primary care.
The Matanga Tapuhi NP role is integral to providing an individual and population-based approach to improve timeliness to specialist orthopaedic assessment and decision making, improving experience and outcomes for patients and whanau.
An important focus for this role is contributing to improved patient flow through ED and care delivery within the orthopaedic acute patient population.
This role will improve effectiveness of care delivery through collaboration and teamwork.
The role importantly contributes to shortened ED stays and improved patient care, including management and experience.
The salary range for this role Senior Nursing Grade 6 as Nurse Practitioner (NP) with registration as NP as per PSA-Mental-Health-Public-Nursing Collective Agreement 2023-2024 or Grade 3 if appointed to NP Candidate role in a NP Candidacy.
About the Team
The Orthopaedic service provides for the management of major injuries and fractures at Wellington Hospital and treatment of injuries, congenital, infective, degenerative and malignant disorders of the musculoskeletal system at Wellington and Kenepuru Hospitals.
A regional tertiary service is provided for patients with complex major trauma, revision joint replacement, spinal disorders, scoliosis, paediatric and hand surgery.
Services are provided on an outpatient, day case and inpatient basis.
Very small numbers are treated in the community.
Orthopaedic patients for secondary care come mainly from the Wellington region, Kapiti Coast and the Wairarapa.
About you
We are looking for a recognised advanced practice nurse that has a passion for ongoing learning and development with the ability to share, support and develop the practice of others.
The successful applicant will have a proven advanced orthopaedic nursing expertise.
You will also be highly organised with exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills and able to demonstrate a high degree of self-awareness and reflection.

Note : If appointed to the role and a current employee at Capital Coast and Hutt Valley Health NZ - the Candidacy period will be a secondment.
