Ko te turanga - the role

Join us as a Senior Policy Adviser designing and delivering projects in areas like biometrics, children's privacy, and artificial intelligence.

The team leads policy advice about the implications of new initiatives, technologies, government policy, legislation, and business and other developments relating to privacy.

Being in a small high performing team means you will be expected to step up and take responsibility for a wide range of projects and subject areas, support and mentor staff, and confidently manage key external stakeholder relationships.

Your ability to effectively deliver on projects - both short term and long-term is key for success in this role, as is your skill in forming productive and influential relationships with external stakeholders, agencies and groups.

The indicative base salary range is $88k - $130k + Kiwisaver.

Actual offer will be based on relevant experience and fit.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner is Aotearoa New Zealand's privacy regulator, protecting the taonga that is personal information.

Our mahi addresses systemic and population-scale privacy issues, increases good privacy practice, and champions the privacy rights of all New Zealanders.

We work in partnership with Maori to take a te ao Maori perspective on privacy, engaging and empowering people and communities who are more vulnerable to serious privacy harm.

You are an experienced Policy Adviser with a proven track record, ready now for the next step in your career or already working at SPA level and wanting to broaden your experience and deepen your skills in a new area of some complexity, pace and change.

You must have :

• relevant qualifications and policy experience
• the ability to lead and manage projects
• demonstrated ability to analyse information and shape it into actionable insights
• high level communication skills with writing that commands attention for its quality and relevance
• a keen interest in the interactions between privacy, law and policy
• the ability to build and maintain co-operative and collegial working relationships
