Mō tēnei tūranga - about the role :
The Senior Advisor Community Readiness and Recovery will be accountable for supporting the Community Risk Manager to enhance the way Fire and Emergency NZ delivers its Community Readiness and Recovery functions. You'll work directly with communities, brigades, iwi, and tāngata whenua to foster preparedness and resilience across the district.
Your responsibilities will include :
Delivering engaging education programmes and presentations to build the community awareness and resilience.
Partner with communities to encourage voluntary compliance and enhance fire safety.
Supporting brigades to build strong local connections that improve emergency preparedness.
Collaborating with iwi, tāngata whenua and diverse community groups to strengthen relationships and outcomes for Māori and all culturally diverse communities.
Applying strategic thinking, negotiation and problem-solving to achieve positive outcomes for all parties.
Build and maintain effective, enduring relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

In this senior role, you'll coach and mentor team members, helping build capability and deliver the district's readiness and recovery programme in alignment with national direction.
We're looking for someone with :
Strong experience in issue analysis and report writing—clear thinking, thorough research, and sound advice.
Ability to assess community risk profiles, interpret data, and translate insights into practical readiness and resilience strategies.
Proven strategic thinking, negotiation, and problem-solving skills for complex situations.
Experience in supporting, mentoring, and empowering colleagues or volunteers to deliver consistent, high-quality community engagement.
A current, clean driver's licence.
Ability to build credibility across the organisation and with external partners and communities.
Proven ability to influence without authority - guiding, advising and collaborating to achieve voluntary compliance and shared ownership of fire safety and resilience outcomes.
Proficiency in MS Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, Sharepoint).
