What you will be doing
This position will be responsible for contributing to and managing the mechanical design outputs across FRAMECAD’s roll-forming manufacturing systems, ensuring high standards in functional design, innovation, prototyping, optimisation and product development. This role enables you to continue to flex your design muscles while delivering the leadership and management function for a small team. Dependent on the candidate, the role may also have cross functional responsibility for management of the electrical design elements of our product suite.
Reporting to the Head of Research and Development, you will play a critical leadership role in mentoring and guiding our team of design engineers, establishing clear design processes, working cross-functionally to drive continuous improvement, and ensuring delivery of high-quality mechanical designs that support manufacturing and customer needs. The role also provides technical input and oversight for in-service product support and collaboration with Customer Success and Operations teams.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a proven leader with a strong industrial mechanical design background. The candidate will need to seamlessly manage people and work plans while maintaining technical standards. You’ll have the technical skills to deliver and oversee mechanical design efforts, facilitate design reviews and ensure adherence to international design and documentation standards. Working alongside the Technical Lead you will be comfortable validating design integrity through FEA, and manage relationships with third-party suppliers related to the manufacture and supply of machine components and assemblies. A proactive and collaborative approach, along with a passion for innovation and continuous improvement, will be key to success in this role.
Skills and Experience :
5+ years of experience in mechanical design, with at least 6 months in a team leadership or management role.
Demonstrated leadership experience managing engineering / design teams
Strong interpersonal, communication and planning skills
Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities
Ability to establish and maintain design processes and standards for capital equipment and manufacturing systems
Expertise in SOLIDWORKS using PDM
Ability to lead cross-functional collaboration and drive project delivery
Comfortable working in a dynamic, high-growth environment with a hands-on, can-do attitude
Nice to have :
Electromechanical background or management experience
Familiarity with Jira as a work management tool
Proficiency in 2D AutoCAD
Familiarity with roll forming equipment or equivalent
Experience working with multiple suppliers and customers
