Intermediate Systems Engineer

Kaipara District Council is looking for a proactive and technically skilled Intermediate Systems Engineer to support the design, implementation, and maintenance of core IT infrastructure and services across the organisation.

Full-time role based in Dargaville or Mangawhai

As Intermediate Systems Engineer, you will :

Support and optimise virtual environments (VMware, Hyper-V)

Manage and troubleshoot network infrastructure (Fortinet switches and firewalls)

Maintain MSSQL and MySQL databases, ensuring performance and data integrity

Implement and monitor cybersecurity protocols and respond to incidents

Provide Tier 2 / 3 technical support and contribute to IT projects and improvements

What You'll Bring

Tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related field

3–5 years' experience in systems engineering or infrastructure support

Certifications in Microsoft, VMware, Fortinet, or cybersecurity (preferred)

Proven experience with :

Microsoft 365 and Azure administration

PowerShell scripting and Power BI reporting

Virtualisation technologies (VMware or Hyper-V)

Database design and management (MSSQL, MySQL)

Network configuration and security

ITIL or similar service management frameworks
