Deliver inclusive, engaging teaching in mechanical and civil engineering programmes.Conduct research that supports industry and Ara's strategic priorities.Support learners through effective assessment, feedback, and guidance.
Teach and research in Mechanical and or Civil Engineering, supporting learner success and driving innovation in sustainable and resilient design.
The Mechanical / Civil Engineering Senior Academic Staff Member delivers high-quality teaching and learning experiences, supports student achievement, and conducts ethical research aligned with Ara's strategic goals.
This role contributes to curriculum development, industry engagement, and innovation in areas such as infrastructure resilience, sustainable design, and advanced manufacturing.
It also includes mentoring, leadership, and active participation in Ara's commitment to Maori learner success and community impact.
A Bachelor or higher qualification in the area of the Mechanical or Civil Engineering or a related discipline.Post graduation qualification in Mechanical or Civil Engineering preferredCurrent industry / discipline knowledge – preference to those that have knowledge in structural engineering.An Ara-recognised teaching qualificationA high level of understanding and experience in the knowledge and practices related to Mechanical or Civil EngineeringUnderstanding of the principles and application of those principles that are related to the allocated courses that are taught in the Engineering programmesThe ability to contribute to research outputs.Teaching experiencePassionate about the industry and the field of practice as covered in Mechanical or Civil Engineering for which the role is linked to and the opportunities to improve practice or give back to the industry and society through education.Sound professional judgment and integrityFriendly and approachable manner
