DescriptionUnder the general direction of the Associate Dean, the candidate performs responsible functions in the development, coordination, and maintenance of a meaningful, consistent statewide training and development program for Job Preparedness instruction.
The main responsibility is to teach an intensive job preparation curriculum and build a bridge for continued services in the community to offenders preparing for Mandatory Supervised Release (Parole).
Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)In cooperation with other instructors, prepare and revise curriculum to instruct offenders in job preparedness.Teach classes in career technology as assigned by the Associate Dean.Make recommendations on curriculum materials in cooperation with others.Report attendance and grades as prescribed by the Associate Dean.Attend faculty meetings called by the administrative officers.Be on the work site for 37.5 hours per week (30-minute lunch).
Arrive at the work site prior to the beginning of the established shift.Arrive at the classroom prior to the scheduled class time.Serve on committees for the betterment of the College as established by administration and faculty.Assist in registration as needed.Consider the general and specific needs of students; assist students in meeting needs or solving problems, and seek additional help from college services when necessary.Observe, support, and enforce College regulations, policies, and programs; inform your supervisor in writing of any detrimental issues.Conduct oneself professionally.Notify the supervisor well in advance of absences.Maintain inventory and control of flammable and caustic materials.Maintain accurate control of tools and keys assigned.Prepare task lists and attendance reports as required.Maintain hourly student count checks.Assist institutional personnel during emergency situations.Prepare grant-related reports as needed.Provide advisement and testing as needed.Comply with Illinois Department of Corrections Regulations and procedures.Maintain equipment assigned to the area.Specific Functional Job RequirementsEducation Requirements : Bachelor's Degree Required.Experience Requirements : Teaching experience preferred.Knowledge : Knowledge of job search techniques preferred.Skills : Ability to instruct incarcerated adults in job preparation and employment searches.Personal Requirements : Good interpersonal skills.
