About the role
As a Ranger (Pest Detection Dogs) you will work with the Conservation Dogs team based in Tamaki Makaurau Auckland.
Your responsibilities include pest surveillance, biosecurity checks and incursion responses on the Auckland Hauraki Gulf Islands, and working across New Zealand as part of the national Conservation dog programme.
The role requires leadership, integrity, professionalism, collaboration with stakeholders, advocacy and public engagement, and flexibility for travel away from home.
Responsibilities
Conduct pest surveillance and biosecurity checks on the Auckland Hauraki Gulf Islands and other sites.
Operate a fully certified rodent detection dog in a range of ecosystems and natural areas.
Respond to pest incursions and coordinate work across the Conservation dog programme.
Build and maintain positive relationships with DOC staff, communities, stakeholders and local government.
Advocate for and engage the public on conservation matters.
Plan, manage and report on field duties, including the use of GPS, Microsoft Suite and ArcGIS.
Skills and Experience
Experience training, handling and caring for working dogs.
Experience in small animal pest control and monitoring.
Backcountry and remote field experience, including off-track work on deep forest islands.
Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
Proficiency with online and offline systems such as GPS, Microsoft Suite, and ArcGIS.
Full current New Zealand driver licence with willingness to travel as required.

Salary and Employment
Permanent, full-time position based in Tamaki Makaurau Auckland.
Salary range : $65,070 to $75,981, based on skills and experience.
