Role : Principal Engineer - Pega

Mō te Tūranga | About the role : As a Principal Engineer , you'll solve complex engineering challenges and design solutions that uplift our entire Engineering Practice. You’ll play a key role in building and maintaining ASB's Pega Centre of Excellence — working across a modernisation and integration programme that spans Pega, Data, CRM and enterprise-scale integration . You'll bring technical and non-technical leaders on the journey by building trust , maintaining momentum , and removing roadblocks to deliver meaningful business outcomes .

You'll be part of a tight-knit, autonomous, multi-disciplinary team of Principal Engineers driving engineering excellence across ASB. We work in agile ways and continuously grow our skills to improve outcomes for our customers.

Ō Pūkenga | About you

We're looking for a seasoned Engineering leader or Architect with experience in modern tech environments at scale . You'll bring initiative , problem-solving skills , and a collaborative leadership style .

You'll Have

• Proven experience in business process management platforms (e.g. Pega, Appian, IBM Suite)
• Event streaming experience (e.g. Apache Kafka, Confluent Cloud)
• Strong knowledge of containerisation, APIs, and CI / CD for data workload management
• Advanced understanding of AI tooling and trends (e.g. generative AI, MLOps, agentic AI), especially within Pega
• Deep knowledge of risk, security, and governance in large organisations
• Expertise in transformational integration and delivery
• Strong interpersonal and leadership skills — able to uplift engineers and stakeholders
• Ability to switch context, learn fast, build trust, and take people on the journey
