Job description

WSP is one of the world's leading professional services firms, uniting its engineering, advisory and science-based expertise to shape communities to advance humanity.

From local beginnings to a globe-spanning presence today, WSP operates in over 50 countries and employs approximately 73,000 professionals, known as Visioneers.

Together we pioneer solutions and deliver innovative projects in the transportation, infrastructure, environment, building, energy, water, and mining and metals sectors.

What if you could do the kind of work the world needs?

A fantastic opportunity exists in our Napier Planning & Engagement team for an experienced Resource Management and Environmental Planner to provide resource management planning and engagement services to a diverse range of WSP clients.

This role encompasses technical planning, project management, and project delivery, offering the chance to work across a varied portfolio of projects.

In your day-to-day work, you will prepare and process resource consent applications, assess environmental effects, and contribute to the preparation of district plan changes and community engagement initiatives.

Acting as a project or task manager, you'll also assist in preparing project briefs, developing fee estimates, and updating project plans to ensure successful project outcomes.

What you'll do

Prepare and process resource consent applications, including assessment of environmental effects, notices of requirement, and outline plans.

Undertake tasks associated with lodging resource consent applications, such as public consultation and identifying regulatory pathways.

Assist with and lead community engagement activities on behalf of clients.

Prepare district plan changes, strategic documents, submissions on plan changes and policy statements, and supporting technical reports.

Conduct research, feasibility studies, and produce reports suitable for client review and presentation.

Provide input into project planning and assist project managers in scoping projects, including verification activities.

Advise clients on resource management plans, policies, and relevant legislation.

Present evidence and advice at local authority hearings.

Act as Project Manager or Task Manager, ensuring deliverables meet client needs and projects are completed on time, within budget, and to required quality standards.

What you'll bring

Bachelor's degree in Resource and Environmental Planning or Urban Planning, or a similar qualification recognised by the New Zealand Planning Institute (NZPI).

Preferably a minimum of 3 years' professional experience in a similar planning role.

Membership of NZPI or actively working towards it.

High emotional intelligence, integrity, and a client-centric approach.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Current clean driver's licence.

The region is ideal for families, offering excellent schools, safe neighbourhoods, and a wide range of outdoor activities.

At WSP, we're committed to shaping a better future through sustainable infrastructure.

You'll be part of a supportive, forward-thinking team that values innovation, diversity, and continuous development.

We offer flexible working arrangements, professional growth opportunities, and the chance to work on impactful projects that benefit communities across Aotearoa New Zealand.
