Are you a talented reporter ready to take the next step in your career? This is a unique opportunity to expand your reporting role by stepping into team leadership.

As Team Lead – Reporters, you’ll continue to do what you love—telling great stories—while also supporting and guiding a team of journalists. It’s the perfect blend of hands-on reporting and leadership development.

First and foremost, you’ll be reporting and delivering best-in-class news coverage for New Zealand audiences. Alongside that you’ll work with the Newsgathering Editor to support rostering and some editorial direction for the wider reporting team, leveraging a strong understanding of the workflows of reporters in the Auckland newsroom and the wider news team.

This is a 12 month fixed term contract.

The ideal candidate for Team Lead Reporter is a reporter wanting to “stay on the tools” while taking the next step in their career by gaining more leadership experience. You will need to be a strong and natural people leader.

Knowledge of the reporters’ workflow and processes are essential as is a strong editorial eye and the ability to develop trusted relationships across the newsroom.

As this is a reporting role first and foremost, we’re looking for someone with a proven record of delivery exclusive or unique journalism in a broadcast setting.

You will need advanced communication skills, both written and verbal as well as an eye for detail along with the ability to work to deadlines and perform well under pressure. A tertiary journalism qualification is preferred as is practical experience in a broadcast news environment.
