Job Description
In 2020 we launched the cross‑disciplinary Design Programme within the Faculty of Creative Arts and Industries. In 2025, the programme has transitioned into the Faculty of Engineering and Design and now covers teaching and supervision from undergraduate to PhD. We focus on pedagogies and approaches of critical importance to contemporary design education, practice and strategy to support students in gaining conceptual and technical skills relevant to an ever‑changing world.
Opportunity
We are seeking a passionate design expert motivated to create a space for students to explore and regenerate the world through purposeful design. The position is a full‑time, permanent Lecturer / Senior Lecturer / Associate Professor (40 hrs per week, 1.0 FTE) and involves the delivery of research, teaching and service / leadership.
Remuneration
Base salary ranges from $97,831 (Lecturer level 1) to $162,557 (Associate Professor) per annum, prorated according to level of experience.
About you
You will have a Doctoral qualification in design or a design‑related field and tertiary teaching experience, able to deliver course content and teach large, diverse student groups. You have carried out and published research in your chosen design field, led professional‑led design projects, and have strong links with industry and related professions. Your portfolio demonstrates specialist design capabilities and transdisciplinary practice, with experience in at least one of the following : Communication Design, Digital Design (XR, 3D modelling, motion graphics, mocap), Product Design (UI, UX, IoT, web development), Service Design, Food Design, Design Innovation, and Participatory Design & Social Innovation.
We actively incorporate Te Ao Māori and Pacific Ways of Knowing into our curriculum. Applicants with expertise in these areas are encouraged to describe their experience and vision.
