Primary and intermediate (Years 1–8) / kura tuatahi, Certificated teacher

To provide high-quality classroom cover across all year levels (Junior, Middle, and Senior) of the school, allowing permanent classroom teachers to access their scheduled Classroom Release Time (CRT), professional development, or other essential non-contact duties.

The release teacher ensures continuity of learning and a positive, supportive environment for all students in the absence of their regular teacher.

Full responsibilities

Instruction : Deliver engaging and effective lessons across the New Zealand Curriculum for all levels (e.g. Y1–8).

Curriculum continuity : Implement pre-prepared lesson plans, programmes, and school routines to maintain a consistent learning experience.

Classroom management : Utilise effective, positive behaviour management strategies to foster a respectful and productive learning environment.

Adaptability : Quickly establish rapport with students of all ages and adapt teaching style to meet diverse learning and developmental needs.

Collaboration : Work collaboratively with permanent staff to ensure smooth transitions and provide brief feedback on student progress and lesson completion.

Skills and requirements

Qualification : Must hold a current New Zealand recognised teaching qualification and a current practising certificate from the Teaching Council of Aotearoa New Zealand.

Experience : Proven ability to teach across multiple year levels / syndicates within a primary or intermediate setting.
