About the Role
Our Specialist Mental Health Services (SMHS) are at the leading edge of mental health service delivery.
We provide a range of inpatient and community services to people in the Canterbury district.
Our SMHS offer a wide range of specialty areas, including : Adult Community; Adult Acute; Rehabilitation; Child, Adolescent and Family (CAF); Forensic; Alcohol and Drug; Intellectually Disabled Persons' Health, and more.
We're looking for a Maori Nurse Educator to join our SMHS Training Unit as a Clinical Educator.
This is a full time opportunity working 40hrs per week (1FTE) based at Hillmorton Hospital.
The Maori Nurse Educator provides leadership in developing and delivering tikanga-informed practice to nursing in SMHS.

About you
In this role, you will be responsible for :
Develops and delivers tikanga-informed education sessions to participants in nursing first year of practice programmes
Provides support to Maori first year of practice nurses through the delivery of support days
Provides clinical supervision to Maori nurses in the Nursing Entry to Specialist Practice (NESP) programme
Provides support to training unit staff to ensure nursing education has a tikanga-informed focus
In partnership with service-based educators, develops and delivers education to service-based kaimahi
In consultation with the Nurse Consultant : Workforce Development, supports senior nursing staff to upskill in tikanga-informed practice and education delivery
Contributes to activities to improve the recruitment, retention, development, and leadership opportunities of Maori kaiimahi
To be successful in this role it is essential that you have :
Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in practice, process, policy development and decision making
Knowledge of Te Tiriti o Waitangi in provision of health care services and support to Maori
Whakapapa to Iwi
Registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand with a minimum of three years mental health and addictions clinical experience.
