Permanent, full-time position for an Enrolled Baby Nurse

Monday-Friday 7.00am - 3.30pm

About the role

BasedatHillmorton Campus, Whangai Aroha,an inpatient ward comprisingofPerinatal Mental Health Serviceand Eating DisordersServices,provides care regionally for the South Island.

PerinatalMental Health Service(5.2 beds) provides specialist treatment for womenwho present with complex moderate to severe maternal mental illness who requireadmission.

This is an exciting opportunity for an Enrolled Nurse to work in aspecialist inpatient setting to provide care, assessment and management ofinfants who are admitted with their mothers to promote ongoing attachment andbonding.

The role involves hands-on infant care, emotional support and education forparents, supporting caregivers with parentcraft skills, and working withRegistered Nurses to implement feed / sleep routines where required.

You willalso be monitoring the physical health of infants, and liaising with externalproviders, house officer and paediatrician to ensure physical and emotionalneeds of the infant are being met.

Nurturing the mother-infant relationship andpromoting infant mental health through play and connection are also integral tothis role.

ThisSpecialty Service offers a fulfilling and dynamic environment and opportunitiesto further your nursing career.

Comprehensive treatment, multi-disciplinaryfunctions across the inpatient and outpatient teams, and liaison with multipleagencies, are integral to service provision.

About You

Skills and Attributes

Registered Enrolled Nurse with the Nursing Council of New Zealandwith a current APC

An interest and passion in infant health anddevelopment

Effective therapeutic communication andinterpersonal skills to forge and foster meaningful relationships with parents,infants and whanau

Reliable, hardworking member of the nursing teamwith strong organisational skills

An ability to promote the health and wellbeing ofbabies, advocating for infant needs in MDT settings

Adaptability and flexibility to work withinfamily's routines and schedules

Adhere to guidelines of Cultural Safety and theTreaty of Waitangi.

Although preferred, a mental health scope orexperience with infants is not necessary for the right applicant.

A willingnessto be trained in infant development and mental health is essential, and ongoingmentorship and training will be provided.
