This is a strategic leadership role responsible for aligning and overseeing three specialist digital functions : Digital Architecture, Applications & Delivery, and Integration.
This role leads leaders and has responsibility for enterprise-level prioritisation, governance, and strategic alignment across multiple digital functions.
It requires experience influencing at senior organisational levels and providing guidance to Team Leaders rather than delivering technical work directly.
Reporting to the General Manager Digital, you'll translate strategy into coordinated plans, ensure delivery across functions, and put in place the governance that ensures our systems, services, and platforms are designed, integrated, and evolved in alignment with our digital strategy.
You'll lead three Team Leaders, foster collaboration, and ensure digital solutions support both operational delivery and long-term strategic outcomes.
You will champion cyber security and drive future-focused digital solutions, ensuring resilience and innovation are embedded across our digital environment.
Key responsibilities include :
Leading and coaching three digital teams and their teams
Aligning digital architecture, applications, and integration work with organisational strategy and roadmapsOverseeing prioritisation and delivery of digital initiatives
Championing cyber security, resilience, and future-focused technology decision-making
Overseeing prioritisation and governance of digital initiatives, including performance measures
Strengthening partnerships with internal teams, mana whenua partners, vendors, and sector peers
Driving continuous improvement and shared ways of working (including agile practices)
Supporting capability development and growth across digital functions

You're a seasoned digital leader who has operated across complex environments.
To be successful in this role, you'll bring prior experience leading other leaders and operating at a strategic, cross-organisation level.
You are comfortable stepping back from operational delivery to focus on alignment, governance, prioritisation, coaching, and influencing direction.
You bring :
10+ years' senior leadership experience in digital / ICT environments
Demonstrated success leading leaders and aligning multiple specialist functions toward shared outcomes
Deep experience in enterprise architecture frameworks, systems integration, and application portfolio leadership
Strong awareness of cyber security, resilience, and future-focused digital approaches
A history of influencing effectively across business, vendor, and sector relationships
A commitment to capability development, continuous improvement, and measurable results

Hours of work
Permanent full-time position 40 hours per week - From time to time, as required, the role may require work outside of normal work hours for emergency and flood response and to represent Environment Canterbury at meetings and events with partners, other agencies, and the community.
Location
This position is predominantly based at 200 Tuam Street, Christchurch
Salary
The indictive salary range for role is $141,734 to $175,083 per annum depending on skills and experience.The specific salary will be discussed at interview stage.
