About Us
Mahitahi Hauora PHE works collaboratively with primary healthcare providers, Māori health providers, community, and key partners, to support our member general practices in achieving better health outcomes for our Tai Tokerau population. As a primary healthcare organisation underpinned by Ti Tiriti o Waitangi, our kaupapa is to enable whānau and communities to achieve self‑determined wellbeing and equitable access to health services. Our vision is healthy whānau, thriving Northland.
We are part of a newly established consortium of six Primary Health Organisations (PHOs) working together to deliver the Nurse Practitioner Training Support Scheme (NPTSS). This nationally coordinated, regionally responsive Scheme supports nurses during the final year of their Nurse Practitioner (NP) training and the first 6 months after registration.
Our six PHOs are strategic influencers within the health system, collectively supporting more than 450 general practices. We will collaborate nationally and regionally with other parts of the health sector, employing NP trainees as part of this programme. The NPTSS is designed to be scalable, equitable, and responsive across urban, rural, and isolated communities.
Opportunity
The Nurse Practitioner Lead plays a pivotal role in guiding and supporting the next generation of Nurse Practitioners through the NPTSS programme. You will provide clinical leadership, mentorship, and operational oversight, ensuring each trainee and practice placement is well matched, supported, and set up for success.
You will be the key bridge between trainees, employers, the academic providers, and the consortium—providing clinical support, expertise, leadership, and problem‑solving. This includes overseeing trainee progress to ensure they meet the required standard of clinical practice to become an NP, providing access to supervision and mentoring, and maintaining quality clinical standards. Support and mentoring will continue for the newly qualified NP for 6 months post‑registration.
Working closely with the team, you will help ensure the programme remains culturally safe, equitable, and impactful for all participants. This is an opportunity to shape the future of advanced nursing practice while championing equitable health outcomes for Māori, Pacific, and priority populations across Aotearoa.
