See the impact of HVDC transfer here.About The TeamGrid Delivery, a division of Transpower, is responsible for all work across New Zealand's transmission network, including project and maintenance work, delivered with our service providers.

The division manages approximately $400M in capex and $100M in opex annually.The HVDC & Power Electronics team supports Grid Delivery by providing operational and maintenance support for Transpower's HVDC & Power Electronics assets, supporting related projects and future planning to ensure asset efficiency.

Read more about the team's work here.About The OpportunityIf you'd like a mix of site-based and office work with friendly professionals and unique assets, join the team supporting the Interisland HVDC Link, Static Var Compensators (SVCs), Static Synchronous Compensators (STATCOMs), Synchronous Condensers (Sync Cons), and Reactive Power Controllers (RPCs).

The team monitors, maintains, repairs, and operates these assets to standards.Initially based at our Haywards Wellington substation, with potential to relocate to Otara Auckland or Christchurch after two years, enjoy dynamic work including : Asset management, operation, and maintenanceFault response and major fault investigations (once trained, rostered for 24 / 7 technical support, one week per month)Site work at substations across New Zealand (e.g., HVDC Link : Benmore to Haywards cable)Project technical supportEquipment commissioning and operational acceptanceThe future grid will rely more on power electronics as generators move to inverter-based systems.

As an Engineer, your CV and cover letter should demonstrate : A bachelor's degree in engineering (Washington Accord) and two or more years relevant experienceKnowledge of high voltage substation assets, including primary, control, and protection systemsUnderstanding of root cause asset fault analysisPassion for using ICT systems in engineeringA full, clean New Zealand driver's licenseAdditional advantageous skills include : Project engineering experience, risk managementKnowledge of control systemsJoin us at TranspowerAotearoa is powered by its people.
