Research Fellow (Mechanobiology Institute)
National University of Singapore – Kent Ridge Campus
The National University of Singapore is a national research university established in 1905. The Mechanobiology Institute (MBI) is a multidisciplinary institute focused on dynamic functional processes in pathogenesis, tissue regeneration, and function.
We seek to recruit a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on a collaborative project between Dr Yin Loon Lee (MBI co‑PI, A
- STAR) and Dr Alexander Bershadsky (MBI). The successful candidate will be embedded in the multidisciplinary environment at MBI, with opportunities to collaborate with A
- STAR to translate findings into therapeutic contexts. The primary research will focus on mechanobiology of durotaxis and its role in fibrotic diseases. Insights could identify novel drug targets for fibrotic diseases, which contribute to 45% of mortality in the developed world.
Responsibilities :
Investigate cytoskeletal connections between the nucleus and cell‑extracellular matrix (ECM) adhesions.Study directed cell migration (durotaxis) along stiffness gradients and its contribution to tissue fibrosis.Leverage MBI core capabilities in live‑cell microscopy, bioengineering, and molecular genetics to establish experimental systems.Monitor parallel genetic, biochemical, and molecular work in disease models at ASTAR.Qualifications
A PhD in cell biology, biophysics, bioengineering, or similar fields.Demonstrated expertise in cellular mechanobiology, molecular biology and genetics, microscopy, and image analysis.Prior knowledge of generating and working with cell‑culture substrates with well‑defined biophysical properties in 2D and 3D would be advantageous.Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.Excellent written and oral communication skills.Application
Interested applicants should include the following in their online applications :
A cover letter describing research experience and interests. The Curriculum Vitae.Contact information for at least two academic referees.Scientific enquiries can be sent to Dr Yin Loon Lee at
