An exciting opportunity exists for a permanent position as an intelligence manager focused on National Security within the National Intelligence Centre (NIC) at Police National Headquarters.

Our mission is to prevent crime and harm through exceptional policing, and intelligence is a key enabler in helping that mission through the delivering of timely, accurate and relevant information to decisions makers, at all levels.

Intelligence provides insight into the underlying causes of crime and harm in our communities, and also delivers foresight to predict and prevent harm, before it occurs.

By leading three prevention-focused teams – the Security Intelligence and Threats Group (SITG), National Security Systems (NSS) team and the Fixated Threat Assessment Centre (FTAC) - and working in partnership with other groups within Police and the wider National Security sector - you will have the opportunity to make a substantive contribution to keeping New Zealand and New Zealanders safe, confident and secure.

Key Accountabilities :

  • To develop, lead and manage work groups to gather, fuse, analyse, and disseminate intelligence that is relevant to National Security – primarily in the counter terrorism, extremism and fixated space
  • To develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to affect the efficient exchange of intelligence, and to seek opportunities to operationalise that intelligence to best effect
  • To manage the coordination of the terrorist designation process
  • To deliver fortnightly briefings to the Commissioner and Police Executive
  • To deliver all of these responsibilities through the Manager, High Risk Targeting Teams, to the Director of National Intelligence

  • Current CPK at the rank of the vacancy you are applying for (Constabulary only).
  • For both Constabulary & Police Employees :
  • Agree to enrol in a leadership programme at the advertised level, at a future date or
  • Have qualified under CEP or a previous Career Progression Framework at the level you are applying for.
  • This role is based in the Wellington area.
  • Some travel may be required.

  • Teritary Qualification in Intelligence and / or National Security Adjacent subjects or equivalent work experience.
  • This role is Leading Leaders level.

    Security Clearance Requirements

    To be eligible for this role, you must obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET national security clearance.

    The minimum criteria for this level of national security clearance is :

    NZ Citizen who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or :

  • A Permanent Resident who has resided continuously in NZ for the last 10 years, or
  • A citizen of or has resided continuously in one or more of the following countries for the last 10 years : Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, or United States of America, and has a background that can be verified by the NZSIS.

    Utu a-tau | Salary

    This position is covered by a collective agreement and salary will commence at $142,124.00 dependent on skills and experience relevant to the role.
