Asset Intelligence Manager

Transpower New Zealand Limited (Tpnz)Wellington, New Zealand

Job description

Overview

Deliver proactive asset modelling and analytics for $5B of critical assets.

Lead a small team delivering insights to inform nationwide asset planning.

Dynamic, data centric analytical work that will drive significant value.

Enable critical infrastructure reliability and resilience through optimising asset health and risk models for the National Grid.

Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand — a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.

In our Grid Development Division, the Strategy, Performance and Risk team manages asset strategy, risk and resilience, reports on grid performance, and models asset health and criticality for our Asset Planning internal customers, who incorporate the insights into their planning and prioritisation of work.

The Asset Modelling team, within Strategy, Performance and Risk, delivers impact by collaborating with our Data and Analytics specialists within ICT to enable future focused asset management excellence.

Meaningful work you can be proud of leading the team to deliver!

Examples of impacts include :

Using our super dataset of over 5 million condition scores, we applied techniques such as filtering, multiple regression and geospatial smoothing that improved the accuracy of our degradation rates.

This avoided early expenditure of $16.5M for conductors and insulators over 5 years.

Developed Asset Health modelling to understand and trend condition and risk information for HVDC subsea cables that went on to support the submission for $1.1B cable replacement project.

Improvement to probabilistic models that determine a monetised Asset Criticality.

This involves processing 35 million power system simulations, estimating service restoration time and converting the energy unserved into cost.

This information has enabled risk-based decisions for replacements, prioritisation of defects, and resilience cost benefit analysis.

Development of cost benefit tools that quantify risk and inform investment decisions for proactive resilience investments for risk reduction and readiness.

The opportunity

due to internal promotion!

In Wellington or Christchurch, you'll lead a team of six, in a high-impact role which is a combination of leadership, asset management, and data analysis & modelling.

You'll drive the evolution of asset health and network risk models, while maintaining critical frameworks that inform investment decisions and funding submissions.

While understanding risk is important, key is enabling evidence-based decisions through strategic insights and robust modelling.

You'll collaborate across the Grid business and with IT Data and Analytics team, to scope and deliver analytics that strengthen our asset health models and network risk insights.

You'll lead the implementation of scalable modelling platforms that support coding processes and data handling, ensuring consistency and efficiency.

Asset Planning is the internal customer who depends on the team's outputs to make robust, evidence-based funding and investment decisions.

You'll play a central role in enabling risk-based decision-making, mentoring others in the use of decision-support tools and guiding interpretation of asset data to maximise value for over $5 billion of critical infrastructure that powers Aotearoa!

What will you bring

You'll enjoy building the capability of others and managing a full work programme utilising your understanding of how data analytics and modelling work to inform asset management and asset health and risk decision making.

Known for your outstanding analytical, communication, and influencing skills, your expertise will be underpinned by a relevant tertiary qualification and ideally experience in asset modelling to support asset planning decisions.

To be shortlisted your CV, cover letter and career to date will demonstrate :

Team leadership in a technical capacity, balancing multiple priorities and communicating effectively with Senior Managers

Experience in team development, building capability, navigating change and coaching technical specialists.

Experience or an understanding of asset management for critical infrastructure

An understanding of platforms, systems, and data management used for modelling asset health and risk

Curiosity and demonstrated ability to lead delivery of meaningful data insights and intelligence
