Overview
Deliver proactive asset modelling and analytics for $5B of critical assets.
Lead a small team delivering insights to inform nationwide asset planning.
Dynamic, data centric analytical work that will drive significant value.
Enable critical infrastructure reliability and resilience through optimising asset health and risk models for the National Grid.
Our core purpose is to empower the energy future for New Zealand — a future that delivers a net-zero carbon economy and a reliable and secure electricity system.
In our Grid Development Division, the Strategy, Performance and Risk team manages asset strategy, risk and resilience, reports on grid performance, and models asset health and criticality for our Asset Planning internal customers, who incorporate the insights into their planning and prioritisation of work.
The Asset Modelling team, within Strategy, Performance and Risk, delivers impact by collaborating with our Data and Analytics specialists within ICT to enable future focused asset management excellence.
Meaningful work you can be proud of leading the team to deliver!
Examples of impacts include :
Using our super dataset of over 5 million condition scores, we applied techniques such as filtering, multiple regression and geospatial smoothing that improved the accuracy of our degradation rates.
This avoided early expenditure of $16.5M for conductors and insulators over 5 years.
Developed Asset Health modelling to understand and trend condition and risk information for HVDC subsea cables that went on to support the submission for $1.1B cable replacement project.
Improvement to probabilistic models that determine a monetised Asset Criticality.
This involves processing 35 million power system simulations, estimating service restoration time and converting the energy unserved into cost.
This information has enabled risk-based decisions for replacements, prioritisation of defects, and resilience cost benefit analysis.
Development of cost benefit tools that quantify risk and inform investment decisions for proactive resilience investments for risk reduction and readiness.
