About the Role
We're seeking a compassionate and confident Hauora Maori Worker to join our Children's Emergency Department team.
In this role, you'll provide whanau-centred, culturally safe support for tamariki Maori and their whanau during what can be a stressful and emotional time.
You'll help ensure that te ao Maori values, tikanga, and Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles are embedded in every aspect of care.
Support tamariki Maori and their whanauto feel safe, respected, and understood while in hospital care.
Advocate for the needs and wellbeing of whanau Maori, helping them navigate the ED process with clarity and confidence.
Provide cultural guidance and uphold tikanga Maori within a child-focused clinical environment.
Strengthen connections between whanau, clinical teams, and Maori Health Services.
Contribute to equity-focused initiatives to improve outcomes for tamariki Maori.
This role requires empathy, calmness, and the ability to engage effectively with children, whanau, and multidisciplinary teams in a fast-paced environment.
About You
Your skills will include :
A strong understanding of te ao Maori, tikanga, and te reo Maori.
A calm, caring presence and ability to support whanau during times of stress.
A genuine commitment to improving hauora and equity for tamariki Maori.
Relevant qualifications or experience in Maori health, social services, community work, or child / family support are an advantage.
